Coping with..... something we dislike
1. Change Your Thinking 2. Change Your Behavior 3. Change Your Lifestyle Change Your Thinking: Reframing a technique used to change the way we look at things in order to l better about them. The key to reframing is to recognize that there are many ways to interpret the same situation (ie. the situation such as is the glass half full or half empty). Learn to get rid of negative thoughts or ling that can result in stresses. There are three simple things you can do. [LIST=1][*]Spend more time focusing on the positive things in your life - Accentuate the positive. [*]Spend less time thinking negatively - Eliminate the negative [*]Enjoy each moment - Latch on to the affirmative. [/list]Positive thinking Avoid negative thoughts of powerlessness, dejection, failure, and despair. Chronic stress make us vulnerable to negative suggestion. Learn to focus on positives. Focus on your strengths Learn from the stress you are under Look for opportunities in the stressful situation Seek out the positive – make a change Change Your Behavior: Be Assertive: do not let others control you Get Organized: be clear. Know what you want and prioritize them. Ventilation: Share your problems and concern with others. Develop a support system of relatives, friends or even online to talk when you are upset or worried. Humor: laugh! Humor is a wonderful stress-reducer and antidote to upsets. It is clinically proven to be effective in combating stress. Laughter stimulates the immune system, off-setting the immunosuppressive effects of stress. Diversion and Distraction: Take a break away from the situations or tasks that are the source of your stress and frustration. Take a vacation or a short walk. This does not solve the root cause. But, it takes away from the source of stress so that you can "catch your breath." It also gives you an opportunity to think about the situation more objectively and may even help you to resolve the situation when looked through a different perspective. Doctors agree that being physically active--walking, stretching, even working in the garden-is a high-power stress buster. Change Your Lifestyle Diet, exercise, spiritual healing, sleep and rest, play with children, music therapy, dancing, deep breathing, leisure, pacing. Lastly believe it or not: Stress is a choice. Every day, I can CHOOSE to be happy or sad, stressed or relaxed, etc. If things are getting hectic I ask myself, "What can I do about it today, right now?" Sometimes, the answer is "nothing." When that happens, I just try to go on about of taking care of what I CAN do, not what I cant do. Remember, it is a CHOICE!
